Late last May early June I was invited to Riga, Latvia by Laine Kristberga to participate in Witches revisited: Exploration of otherness through feminine archetypes -symposium to give lecture of my performance art practice and take part in wonderful one week programme with lectures and work shops, and to finally perform in Starptelpa festival over the weekend, and here is some documentation of my performance “Womb”.

Latvian News writing by Gundega Evelone bout the Starptelpa Latvijas Performances mākslas centrs Performance Art Festival in Riga Circus from 1.6.2024☆
Googletranslated;
“Artist Meri Hietala (Finland) takes the audience to ancient times in her performance “Womb”. She is a sorceress, a witch who speaks quietly and calmly to the audience, gradually luring them deep, deep into the dark forest. The artists of other performances (this kind of mutually supportive, improvised cooperation between the performers is very pronounced this time in “Space”) play simple, meditative sound-creating instruments. Then naked Meri Hietala sits in an empty, black rubber pool, oils herself up and transforms into a strange, indefinable creature in which the feminine, the untamed and the primal merge. Her radiated energy is not explosive, but balanced and creative. All this time, Meri is in contact with the audience, addressing everyone and no one at the same time, and hypnotically attracting attention.”
Thank You!
